“Okay. The story is about a little wave, bobbing along in the ocean, having a grand old time. He’s enjoying the wind and the fresh air-until he notices the other waves in front of him, crashing against the shore.

“‘My god this is terrible,’ the wave says. ‘Look what’s going to happen to me!’

Es fácil sentirse bien cuando nunca se arriesga; es fácil destacar cuando cualquier pequeñez es tomada como logro; es fácil ser un buen jugador cuando se juega en modo “easy“; es fácil ser bueno cuando no hay oportunidad de ser malo.

Para recordar: cuando las cosas se comienzan a ver fáciles, cuando uno se comienza a sentir cómodo, es allí, es ese el tiempo de dar el siguiente paso, de ser ambicioso y arriesgar más.

Regresé a Honduras hace poco más de una semana y entre todas las ideas que tenía en mente y que había estado cociendo en mi cabeza, la que más siento tiene potencial y podría tener un buen impacto social es la de crear una plataforma educativa (al estilo Khan Academy), donde se ofrezcan lecciones en video de forma gratuita y que el programa esté orientado por el currículo educativo publicado por la Secretaría de Educación de Honduras, de tal forma que al final, quienes se hayan sometido a las lecciones pueda optar por tomar un examen de suficiencia para obtener una equivalencia académica (de la misma forma que lo hacen las personas que participan en el programa de educación por radio).

Por suerte existen ya varios recursos que, en este caso, ayudan a conectar las piezas, por ejemplo: la plataforma de Khan Academy recientemente publicó su nuevo framework de ejercicios, los currículos de educación primaria (primero a sexto grado) y secundaria básica (séptimo a noveno grado) están disponibles para descarga en el sitio de la Secretaría de Educación junto con muy buenas estadísticas de los Centros Educativos hondureños.

Las razones por las que creo este proyecto podría tener éxito: en Honduras hay problemas serios en el sector educativo, por lo que entiendo, el problema está en el maestro promedio, quien aprovechándose de los beneficios y derechos se olvida de sus deberes; si lográramos saltar esta barrera entre el estudiante y el conocimiento se podría hacer un progreso. No me malentiendan, estoy consciente de los beneficios y del impacto que puede hacer un buen profesor, pero según los resultados que se ven, en Honduras tenemos muy pocos. Hay muchos fondos destinados a educación flotando en el limbo, lo que falta son buenas propuestas. Es inevitable el impacto que está teniendo la tecnología (computación e internet) en el proceso educativo, de la forma en que lo veo esto no es solamente una opción, es el futuro, bien sea el próximo mes o en 5 años, se hará, se tomará el paso. Tenemos los recursos para realizar un proyecto así, tenemos tanto las personas como la tecnología.

Por supuesto la idea por ahora es muy general, muchos detalles y estimaciones tienen que ser considerados, si lo que han leído les parece atractivo, escríbanme un correo y anótence como voluntarios, estoy especialmente interesado en hablar con educadores e ingenieros.
